It has been wet in the heartland this past spring and over the past year,

The spring Palmer Drought Severity Index has been with the exception of 2012 for this area positive.

Long term drought blends reflect the long term precipitation

The short term drought indicator blend is showing dryness in the northern plains.

The last 60 days has been dry there and in south Iowa and west Texas.

The next 10 days will see 90s in the southwest, southern Iowa and southeast South Dakota.

See how the dry areas are where the warmth is greatest.
